Gibson Fine Art was launched in the late 1970s by Norma Gibson as a corporate art consulting practice. In 2004, Patti Dibski purchased the business and in 2007 she merged with Fosbrooke Fine Art and transformed Gibson Fine Art into a retail gallery.

Over the past five years Dibski has seen a decline in demand for highly representational art, and a corresponding increase in demand for contemporary interpretations of the landscape, still life and cityscapes.

The artist Bigoudi (professional name of Pascale Ouellet) is one Dibski often recommends to collectors. Her large format encaustic paintings with themes of animals or the human figure, are dramatic, fun and serious at the same time. A winner of several awards, Bigoudi was selected as one of Alberta’s top 20 artists in a competition held by the Heritage Corporation in 2009 and, in addition to her paintings, she won a major commission in 2005 for Chinook, a large outdoor sculpture piece for the town of Canmore.

For new collectors Dibski believes in the power of the internet. “Every gallery has a website. Visit them frequently,” she suggests, “the more you see, the more you will understand what you like. Armed with this information, I highly recommend you actually examine the art since it’s nearly impossible to understand the artwork’s colour balance, and contrast by viewing it on screen or with a printer.”
