François-Matthieu Bouchard teams mechanical devices and gestural movements to highlight the tensions between the organic and the mechanical. “Despite the cold mechanism that the piece evokes, the elegance of the details reveals a rather different strategy and contrasts it with sensual waves, its twisting thrust implying an animal-like seduction or bringing to mind a DNA chain,” says Bouchard. “The line is not always intact; at times twirling and at times separating, it suggests the scars of life’s highs and lows.”
