Helen Sabados, a Russian-born arts educator, reflects on her first six months as an immigrant in Canadian Reflections. A traditionalist, she advocates classical training. “On the basis of knowledge of the rules of academic painting and drawing, we can do experiments, but the base must be first,” she says. Sabados draws inspiration from the natural world.
