This year was not an easy one for Canadian art, as we saw the passing of many beloved artists — and well-respected Canadian art writers, too. Alex Janvier, Joe Average, Bratsa Bonifacho, Anna Banana, Robert Fulford, Isla Burns, Susan Kristoferson, William Brownridge, Terry McCue and David Silcox all left lasting marks on the Canadian — and global — art scene. They will long be remembered, and our hearts go out to their friends, family and all those who knew and loved them. See the links below to find out more about their impressive contributions to Canada and, indeed, the world.
And our apologies, too, to the friends and family of those artists whose deaths we didn't hear about.
We wish you all moments of peace and comfort as the new year dawns.
