JAMES GORDANEER
April 9 to June 6, 2010, Art Gallery of Greater Victoria
Prolific Vancouver Island painter James Gordaneer has been inspired by almost every movement in late 20th century art, from Modernist Abstraction to Neo Expressionism. His show at the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria will chronicle the great sweep of his 60 years of putting paint on canvas, including his most recent period, in which he’s decided, somewhat cheekily, to take complete artistic license. Everything reflects his life as a fixture on the Victoria art scene, and his devotion to teaching and mentorship. On from April 9 to June 6, the show will be accompanied by a hefty catalogue, with content by curator Nicole Stanbridge, and former AGGV curator of contemporary art, Lisa Baldissera.
