Ormeya Zagros, who works as an artist under the name Bîstyek, has a new exhibition, Inside Out, opening Nov. 22 at Katie + Gunner Gallery in Winnipeg, Man.
Born in Syria, Zagros lived in a refugee camp in Lebanon before moving to Winnipeg. Many of his paintings are of other refugees that he has met.
“Their faces are the faces of people who have been through really something rough and tough,” Zagros/Bîstyek told CBC in 2020.
That was four years ago, but Bîstyek's work is as powerful now as it was then. “Explore vibrant portraits, large-scale acrylic paintings, drawings and innovative sculpture that invite you into the artists’ inner world as he remembers the people he met along the way,” says the gallery team about the colourful, bold, brave work. It's definitely worth checking out. ■
