Charley Farrero has been busy this year. His gloriously quirky, colourful, detailed ceramic work is being featured in three exhibitions this summer in Saskatchewan.
The first show, Mud Matters, with artist Evan Quick, is on view through Sept. 28 at the Saskatchewan Craft Council Gallery in Saskatoon, Sask.
The second, A Scenic Detour, is on now through Oct. 1 at Nouveau Gallery in Regina, Sask.
And the third, The Meacham Elevator, is a joint show with Bonnie Gilmour and “is a meditation in clay on what they experienced after the destruction of the grain elevator that once stood over their home village of Meacham.” It's on view at the Humboldt Museum and Gallery in Humboldt, Sask. through Sept. 20.
Born in Paris, France, Farrero co-founded Prairie Design Group, a group that coordinates large sculptures for commission. A former ceramics instructor at the University of Saskatchewan, he was awarded the Saskatchewan Lieutenant Award for Innovation in the Arts in 2008.
His work has been shown across Canada and is found in several public collections including the Saskatchewan Arts Board, MacKenzie Art Gallery and New Canadian Ceramics Museum in China. A co-founder of North Star Pottery in Humboldt, Sask., he now lives in Meacham, Sask. ■
