STEVE AMSDEN
April 17 to May 29, 2010, Maple Ridge Arts Centre
Before he moved closer to Vancouver, painter Steve Amsden spent decades exploring the landscape around the Kootenay region of B.C. — the Slocan lakes, peaks of the Selkirks, and the rolling hills that surround the city of Nelson. His paintings, mostly inspired by sketches and photographs captured on hikes and ridge walks, can trace their inspiration to a handful of Canadian landscape artists — from Lawren Harris to Kootenay painter Les Weisbrich. Amsden has a solo show at the Maple Ridge Arts Centre in his hometown of Maple Ridge, B.C., April 17 to May 29.
