Natural historian and photographer Tom Willock captures, in striking black and white images, the waterfalls, rivers, skies, mountain peaks and flora of Southern Alberta, particularly of the Waterton area in which he now resides. With close to 40 years behind the camera, Willock has developed a distinctive, personal perspective and great passion for the natural beauty of his region. "My sense of myself is inseparable from the land," he says. "My photographs have no purpose, no intention, beyond the truthful expression of my own inner vision, reflections of human experience and the natural landscape." Willock was director of the Medicine Hat Museum and Art Gallery from 1978 to 1998. He now co-owns, with his wife Susan Sax-Willock, the Willock & Sax Art Gallery in Waterton where his recent images are included in the Wonder of Water group exhibition entitled WOW: Headwaters and Watersheds, running July 21 to 28, 2003. Willock's work is also carried by the Scott Gallery in Edmonton.
