Karin Bubaš
Vancouver photographer Karin Bubaš is known for mysterious portraits of solitary women in idyllic settings.
Karin Bubaš is a Vancouver photographer who has exhibited nationally and internationally in Paris, Brussels and Washington, D.C. She often focuses on the natural and built environment, and is known for her Studies in Landscapes and Wardrobe series, which features solitary women in idyllic settings. The women, sometimes Bubaš herself, typically look away from the camera, their identity obscured. These mysterious images refer to the ways women are portrayed in art and cinema, particularly the films of Michelangelo Antonioni and Alfred Hitchcock, as well as the sublime in 19th-century landscape painting. Recently, Bubaš has turned her attention to the depiction of flowers in art history by creating layered cutouts of multiple photographs. Bubaš is represented by the Monte Clark Gallery in Vancouver. ■
