Vilhelm Sundin
Quiet, layered scenes immerse viewers.
Vancouver-based Swedish artist Vilhelm Sundin uses photography and videos to create quiet, layered scenes – a family playing in snow as the light fades, a woman walking on a street at night, a mountain towering over a darkening harbour. “I always try to have different levels of reality and dreamlike qualities,” he says. Sundin uses only natural light, which adds a soft and sometimes bleak aspect to his work. He emphasizes the power of chance moments captured on camera, and the ways his videos invite in viewers. “I’m trying to make it as immersive as I can,” he says. “In some of the works, the scene is even looking back at you.”
