Exposure
There will be 40+ exhibitions featuring photography in Calgary, Banff, Edmonton, Lethbridge, Okotoks, Medicine Hat, and Longview plus 60+ festival events throughout the province. The bulk of them will be held in Calgary, including (but not limited to) book launches, photography workshops, film screenings, panel discussions and numerous opening receptions. The Exposure Portfolio Review, supporting the region’s emerging photographers, will be held on February 17.
In addition to this record number of exhibitions and events, the Exposure Photography Festival will be hosting two of its own curated exhibitions: the Emerging Photographers Showcase (EPS) and the Open Call (OC).
The EPS exhibition is comprised of emerging Albertan photographers, and was juried by the Festival’s board of directors. The OC exhibition, juried by Andrea Kunard, the Associate Curator of Photography at the National Gallery of Canada, features international and Canadian photographers. Both exhibitions will be held in spaces at Eau Claire Market, provided by Harvard Property Management Inc.
A kick--‐off bash will be held on Saturday, February 3, from 10am--‐5pm, with an opening reception slated for that evening, from 6--‐9pm.
Adding to this impressive roster of exhibition and events, the Exposure Photography Festival is thrilled to announce the international debut of The FENCE, a large scale travelling outdoor photography exhibition produced by United Photo Industries in Brooklyn, NY.
The FENCE has reached over 4 million visitors annually through open--‐air exhibitions in seven cities across the United States: Brooklyn, Boston, Atlanta, Houston, Santa Fe, Durham and Denver. During the month of February, 2018, The FENCE will be installed on construction fencing starting at the iconic Peace Bridge and working its way east through West Eau Claire Park, towards the Eau Claire Market Festival Hub. Exposure Festival pop--‐ up fences will also appear along Stephen Avenue in the Calgary downtown core.
