The Art Gallery of Ontario — one of the largest art museums in North America — is one step closer to reopening after a labour dispute has seen the gallery closed since Mar. 26.
CBC reports that OPSEU, the union representing the AGO’s striking workers, has said the gallery and the bargaining team have reached a tentative deal after 16 hours of negotiations.
And the gallery has announced it will reopen April 30.
"We look forward to reopening the museum soon," said Laura Quinn, director of communications for the gallery, told CBC.
Roughly 400 AGO workers are represented by OPSEU, including assistant curators, instructors, carpenters, archivists, hospitality and food staff. According to the Toronto Star report, “part-time employees make up more than 60 per cent of the AGO’s workforce, and they earn an average of $34,380 per year.”
