Glenbow Appoints Chief Curator
Haema Sivanesan joins the Glenbow in Calgary as chief curator after a year-long international search.
She comes to the position from the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria, where she has worked as a curator since 2015.
Sivanesan is interested in non-Western, post-colonial and transnational histories.
Exhibitions she has most recently curated include Imagining Fusang: Exploring Chinese and Indigenous Encounters, Fiona Tan: Ascent and Supernatural: Art, Technology and the Forest.
In 2018, she was awarded a $50,000 curatorial research fellowship from the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts.
Two years earlier, she received a multi-year research and exhibition development grant from the Robert H.N. Ho Family Foundation in Hong Kong for the forthcoming project, In the Present Moment: Buddhism, Contemporary Art and Social Practice.
