AGA Board of Directors appoints Catherine Crowston Executive Director of the Art Gallery of Alberta

EDMONTON, AB – Art Gallery of Alberta (AGA) Board Chair, Barry Zalmanowitz announced today, that after six months as Acting Executive Director, Catherine Crowston has been appointed Executive Director of the AGA, effective July 1, 2012.
“For more than a decade, Catherine has been the driving force behind the outstanding exhibitions and programs presented at the AGA,” Zalmanowitz comments. “She is one of the most respected curators in Canada, has excellent business skills and is a strong leader. These qualities make Catherine the perfect choice to guide the AGA forward. In her time at the AGA, Catherine has worked with the Board to build relationships with key partners locally, nationally and internationally, and has made the AGA a centre of excellence for the visual arts in Western Canada. Catherine will maintain her role as AGA Chief Curator and AGA visitors can continue to expect the highest standard of programming under Catherine’s direction with her commitment to positioning the AGA as Alberta’s must-see attraction and a museum of international significance.”
Crowston joined the AGA in 1997 as Senior Curator, and was made Deputy Director / Chief Curator in 2006. Crowston also currently serves as Vice-Chair of the City of Edmonton Public Art Committee and is a member of the University of Alberta’s Festival of Ideas Advisory Board.
