The Art Gallery of Ontario has concluded a crowdfunding campaign to acquire Canada’s first Infinity Mirror Room by Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama.
Thanks to over 4,700 #InfinityAGO donors and the David Yuile and Mary Elizabeth Hodgson Fund, Kusama’s Infinity Mirrored Room - Let's Survive Forever, will be bought by the gallery.
It is still under construction and will arrive in Toronto in spring 2019.
The work features mirrored orbs suspended from the ceiling and arranged on the ground.
Donations ranged from $1 to $25,000, with the majority between $25 and $100.
Before the campaign began, the gallery secured $1 million towards the purchase and the campaign raised an additional $651,183. The gallery reached back into the Hodgson Fund – which is dedicated to art acquisitions – to complete the campaign.
