André Plante has been appointed provost and academic vice-president at the Alberta College of Art and Design in Calgary, effective Aug. 15.
Plante will oversee academic and student affairs at the institution, which is transitioning from a college to a university.
Plante, who has 25 years of experience in higher education, comes from Sheridan College in Ontario, where he has been serving as associate vice-president for corporate planning, facilities and sustainability.
“As a leader, I am energized by new and exciting challenges," Plante said. "I am especially looking forward to work in concert with students, faculty and staff on the transition from college to university.”
Plante has worked on various international academic ventures in Asia. In 1995, on behalf of an international consortium, he helped open a design college in Shanghai.
He has studied colour science and interface design as an invited researcher at the Advanced Telecommunications Research Laboratory in Japan.
