Art Gallery of Greater Victoria to Reopen May 19
The Art Gallery of Greater Victoria will reopen on May 19.
The gallery closed its doors on March 17 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Admission will be free until July 5.
The Winnipeg Art Gallery reopened last week. It was the first gallery in Western Canada to reopen.
The Victoria gallery has hung its two largest exhibition spaces with works from its collection, with one space focusing on historical work and the other on contemporary.
"Focusing on the collection allows us to work with intimacy and fiscal responsibility to create experiences for our visitors as they start to venture out, looking for opportunities to reconnect to the world and each other safely,” said John Tupper, the gallery's director.
The gallery plans to continue some of its virtual programs, including FieldTrip.art, for those who prefer to stay at home.
