Atlantic Artist Residency Winner on Speaking Tour
Interdisciplinary artist Meagan Musseau, from Elmastukwek, Ktaqmkuk territory, Bay of Islands, Nfld., starts a national speaking tour April 14 in St. John’s, Nfld.
Musseau is the winner of the 2018 Emerging Atlantic Artist Residency, which includes an eight-week residency at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, followed by the opportunity to travel across Canada to speak about her experience and project.
“The residency opened an exciting space to work towards my original project goals,” says Musseau.
“I fully immersed myself in a creative process and came out with a collection of wall drawings, materials and designs for garments, and ideas for a new media installation."

Musseau works with beading, basketry, installation and land-based action to explore notions of memory, language and the relationship between land and body. During the residency, she created work that responds to a collection of Beothuk caribou bone pendants at The Rooms provincial museum in St. John’s, Nfld.
Musseau’s tour includes:
April 14: The Rooms (St. John’s, Nfld.)
April 17: AXENÉO7 (Gatineau, Que.)
April 23: Urban Shaman (Winnipeg)
April 25: Grunt Gallery (Vancouver)
April 27: Open Space (Victoria)
The Emerging Atlantic Artist Residency is a partnership between the Banff Centre and the Hnatyshyn Foundation, and is funded with support from the Harrison McCain Foundation.
