The Masterworks from the Beaverbrook Art Gallery exhibition will arrive on June 18 for a three month visit!

This stopover in Whistler is the only one in British Columbia and is described by Executive Director Suzanne Greening as “a unique opportunity to spend time with old friends and make new acquaintances. For example, Salvador Dali’s Santiago El Grande is considered one of his most important Surrealist works and is sure to inspire awe”.

The exhibition comprises 75 paintings created by world-renowned artists including Constable, Delacroix, Freud, Gainsborough, Reynolds, Sargent, Sickert, Sisley, Sutherland, Turner, and Dali, and by seminal artists in the history of Canadian art, such as Carr, Harris, Krieghoff, and Morrice.

“It’s amazing that our mountain resort will be hosting such famous artists – representing a must-see event for art lovers”, added Greening.

Masterworks from the Beaverbrook Art Gallery is curated by Terry Graff, the Beaverbrook Art Gallery’s Director, CEO and Chief Curator, and is generously funded by presenting sponsor TD Bank Group and the Department of Canadian Heritage Museum Assistance Program. It presents the remarkable legacy of business tycoon, newspaper publisher, politician, and personal confidant of Sir Winston Churchill, Lord Beaverbrook (or Max Aitken as he was earlier known).

The Audain Art Museum’s Chief Curator Darrin Martens reflects, “The way in which the Beaverbrook Art Gallery and the Masterworks exhibition evolved from the philanthropic activities of Lord Beaverbrook curiously parallels the incredible generosity of Michael Audain in the creation of the Audain Art Museum, including the donation of his British Columbia collection to create a public institution that will enable Canadians and international visitors alike to participate in a very special cultural experience”.
