Audie Murray, a Michif visual artist, has been chosen as the City of Regina's first Indigenous artist in residence.
Murray, who is based in Oskana kâ-asastêki / Regina in Treaty 4 territory, will explore the theme of urban Indigeneity. Her proposal is create a large beaded wall hanging.
Murray will also provide support to residency program that helps youth learn beadwork alongside local cultural leaders.
Murray holds a bachelor's degree in fine arts from the University of Regina, and a master's degree in fine arts from the University of Calgary. She has exhibited at the Independent Art Fair in New York City, the Vancouver Art Gallery and the Centre for Contemporary Arts in Glasgow.
The city issued an open call for an Indigenous artist in residence in June. A panel of art professionals reviewed applications.
