Banff Centre 2020 Programs
The Banff Centre's visual arts programs for 2020 include a themed residency about plastic.
The residency, which runs July 20 to Aug. 21, asks artists to reimagine their relations with plastic by exploring recycling and reconstituting, materiality and what it means to use plastic as a creative material.
The application deadline is March 4.
As well, two non-themed residencies allow artists to focus on their practice in a supportive learning environment. Artists will be encouraged to explore new ideas, conduct self-directed research and cultivate new directions in their work.
The late spring residency runs from June 1 to July 3, with an application deadline of Jan. 22. The summer residency runs July 20 to Aug. 21, with an application deadline of March 4.
Residencies allow artists to delve into their practice away from the constraints of everyday life. They are given a studio, accessible 24 hours a day, as well as access to facilities and expertise in photography, sculpture, printmaking, paper-making, ceramics, fibre, painting, digital media, video and sound, as well as curatorial studies.
