Banff residencies now accepting applications

Applications are now being accepted for the Spring 2024 Banff Artist in Residence program at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity.
- Visual Arts: Banff Artist in Residence, May 6 to June 7, 2024
Deadline to apply: Jan. 10
This program is for visual artists, who will have five weeks to focus on their practice in a supportive environment that includes individual studio visits with guest faculty and peer dialogue. Staff will be available for technical support and assistance, and attendees will have access to shared production facilities.
- Banff International Curatorial Institute: Art, Writing Practice, July 2 to July 19, 2024.
Deadline to apply: Feb. 7
Tina Campt and Macarena Gomez-Barris will co-lead this residency and public symposia on art writing, which is focused on experimental forms. Guest lecturers include Saidiya Hartman and Jack Halberstam.
- Visual Arts Thematic Residency: Get LIT! Language, image, Text, June 24 to July 26, 2024
Deadline to apply: Feb. 21
A five-week residency where visual artists have the time and space come together to create and discuss the residency’s theme as well as dive into their practice away from the limitations of everyday life. Faculty include Joi Arcand, Whess Harman, August Klintberg and Michael Turner.
- Visual Arts: Banff Artist in Residence — Summer 2024, Aug. 12 to Sept. 13, 2024
Deadline to apply: April 10
This program, like the spring program above, gives visual artists the space and time to immerse themselves in their practice without the constraints of everyday life.
- Independent Residencies: Leighton Artists Studios
- April 1 to Sept. 30, 2024 (individual residencies)
- July 1 to Aug. 2, 2024 (small group and collaborative residencies)
Deadline to apply: Nov. 29
These nine architect-designed studios were created for artists working in a variety of disciplines, including visual arts including photography, as well as critical and curatorial writing. The Painter House, a tenth studio, is designed for groups of two to 10 artists working together.
