Beakerhead
Three, two, one … blast off! A team of artists is turning the landmark Calgary Tower into the world’s first Municipal Space Station, flavoured with the wry quirks of public transit, proving that bureaucracy follows us no matter where we boldly go.This technological experience involves virtual reality and hands-on exploration created by Humble Wonder with support from Quickdraw Animation Society.
The art collective, Humble Wonder, creating this experience was the winner of the 2017 Big Bang Residency Program, which supports a team of artists and engineers to develop a major work of art over the course of a year that premieres internationally during Beakerhead. The residency program is a partnership between Beakerhead and the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, and is supported by Calgary Arts Development and the Calgary Hotel Association.
Launch times will depart in 15 minute intervals and can hold a maximum of eight people at a time. Tickets for the Calgary Municipal Space Station are $24.99 (includes Calgary Tower admission of $17) and are available online through the Beakerhead website.
Beakerhead 2017 will take place in Calgary, Alberta from September 13 to 17
