Sanjay Shahani has been appointed as the new director general, strategy and public affairs for the Canada Council for the Arts.
Since 2016, Shahani has been the executive director of the Edmonton Arts Council and he oversaw the creation of the award-winning City of Edmonton’s cultural plan, Connections & Exchanges: A 10-Year Plan To Transform Arts and Heritage In Edmonton (2019-2029).
Plans to replace Shahani at the EAC have not yet been made public; nor has his official start date with the Canada Council. His last day at EAC will be March 22.
“While we are disappointed to lose a visionary leader who has positively transformed the organization, and with it, the arts ecosystem in Edmonton, the EAC is in good hands with its current leadership and staff,” said Christopher Filipowicz, chair of the EAC board of directors, in a news release.
