Canada is playing a significant role in the establishment of the Pan African Heritage World Museum in Ghana, says Senator Patricia Bovey.
Bovey, who is on the institution's international curatorial council, recently told the Senate that a sod-turning ceremony for the museum, set to open in 2023, has been held.
"Canadian Black artists from all creative disciplines, from every part of Canada, have been engaged with me in meeting to discuss the approaches for our physical exhibition in the new building and the online virtual exhibitions," she told the Senate.
A content steering committee, with membership by Canadian Black artists, will determine the themes and curators for both physical and virtual exhibitions, said Bovey, a former director of the Winnipeg Art Gallery.
She said discussions thus far "have been rich, the realities brought forward both tough and inspirational, and the visions of the artists truly exciting."
