Festival Launch Party & Feature Exhibition Opening, April 5
The 2018 feature exhibition, The Blue Hour, is produced in partnership with Vancouver's Contemporary Art Gallery. It presents work by five Canadian and international artists — Joi T. Arcand, Kapwani Kiwanga, Colin Miner, Grace Ndiritu and Kara Uzelman — and acts as a proposition to consider the futurity of the photographic image.

BC Hydro Dal Grauer Substation Public Art Project: In the Belly of a Cat
For the fourth BC Hydro Dal Grauer Substation Public Art Project, Capture commissioned Toronto artist Nadia Belerique to create a photo-based work that engages with the site. Writer Sky Goodden explores Belerique’s site-specific photo mural in her essay, “Between the Artist, the Subject and Their Sky,” available online on the Capture website.

Pattison Outdoor Billboards Public Art Project: Yesterday's News
The internationally recognized photo curator and critic David Campany has been invited to curate this new iteration of the Billboard Project, investigating news photographs and the role of photography as public address. Yesterday's News showcases works by Jonah Samson (Canada), Stanley Wolukau-Wanambwa (US), and Thomas Ruff (Germany).

Canada Line Public Art Project 2018
This year’s project stretches across 12 locations, from Waterfront to Richmond-Brighouse. New in 2018, the downtown Vancouver stations are part of the feature exhibition curated by the Contemporary Art Gallery. All three sites will feature works from Cree artist Joi T. Arcand’s series Here on Future Earth. Arts Umbrella, Burrard Arts Foundation, Richmond Art Gallery and others have curated additional stations, and one artist has been chosen by public vote via the Georgia Straight.

Translink Public Art Project: Qimash
The Chinatown–Stadium SkyTrain station features the work of emerging artist Durrah Alsaif, a finalist in the 2017 Lind Prize for Emerging Artists. Alsaif’s work addresses the social phobia surrounding the hijab.

Capture New West: The Play
Capture and the City of New Westminster’s Public Art Program features the work of Dutch artist and bookmaker Ruth van Beek. Van Beek’s site-specific installation at Sapperton Park, The Play, pulls from photographs found in instructional manuals for children’s toys.

I Was a Teenage Skateboarder in the '90s
The group photography exhibition I Was a Teenage Skateboarder in the '90s highlights the street skateboarding scene during the 1990s. The images feature some of Vancouver’s iconic skate spots and skaters from this formative era. In addition to the exhibition, a photo mural will be installed at Peter Sullivan Skatepark, Ambleside, West Vancouver.

Youth Programs
Magenta Flash Forward Incubator Program
The Flash Forward Incubator Program is an online photography project for high school students that integrates independent and interactive teaching methods. It offers opportunities to give and receive feedback from instructors as well as the Capture and Magenta Foundation education team with the final goal of a publication and professional gallery show at the Yaletown Roundhouse Exhibition Hall. Seven schools and approximately 50 students will participate in this year's program including, five schools in Vancouver, one on Vancouver Island, and one in Haida Gwaii.
