Catherine de Montreuil New Director of Vancouver's UNIT/PITT
Catherine de Montreuil is the new director at Vancouver's UNIT/PITT.
She replaces Brit Bachmann, director from 2019 to 2022, who will continue to work as development coordinator and re-issue publisher at the artist-run centre.
De Montreuil is an artist and arts worker whose leadership is informed by her experience as a working-class person. Throughout her career she has advocated for fair labour standards and greater equity within the arts.
Her experience includes independent arts publishing and she is interested in cultural relationships to landscape, nature, craft, language and mythologies, as well as expanding the definition of who is considered to be an artist.
She has worked with various Vancouver cultural spaces, including Access Gallery, Artspeak, Publication Studio Vancouver, the Vancouver Art Gallery and the Libby Leshgold Gallery.
De Montreuil graduated from the Emily Carr University of Art and Design in 2017 with a major in critical and cultural practices, and completed the UBC Botanical Garden's horticulture training program in 2021.
