Catherine Sinclair joins National Gallery of Canada
Catherine Sinclair has been named the National Gallery of Canada's new director, Exhibitions, Conservation and Production. She will join the gallery on Dec. 4.
As part of her new role, Sinclair will be responsible for the strategic vision, development and implementation of the gallery’s exhibitions and supporting services. She will also oversee exhibition management, conservation and restoration projects, as well as related technical services.
“I’m eager to work together as cross-departmental teams to efficiently mobilize the incredible art resources we have to allow artists and communities across the country to be included, represented, proud and inspired by our national collection and powerful exhibitions," Sinclair says about her new role.
Since 2006, Sinclair has been part of the team at the Ottawa Art Gallery and was most recently the deputy director, chief curator. Her curatorial work includes more than 50 exhibitions including Norman Takeuchi: Shapes in Between – A Retrospective (2023, co-curated); Alma: The Life and Art of Alma Duncan (1917–2004) (co-curated, 2014-16). She was also was a recipient of the Association of Art Museum Curators (AAMC) Foundation Engagement Program for International Curators (2017–2019 and 2021–22).
