Centre A Announces New Executive Director/Curator
Centre A Board President Richard Mew announced the appointment of Tyler Russell to the position of Executive Director/Curator.
Recently known as the founder of North Vancouver’s Café for Contemporary Art, Russell comes to Centre A with nearly a decade of experience organizing both community-based and biennale scale art exhibitions in Korea and Japan. Conversant in Japanese and to a lesser extent Korean, he has a deep interest in polyglot cultural spaces and transnational culture and identity.
Noting Vancouver’s unique geo-cultural place in the Asia Pacific, Russell says that that under his watch “we will see less of an emphasis on conversations about how Asia, a space external to other spaces, is to be defined, and more of a curious inquiry into who, in this era of transpacific exchange, we might become.”
