Centre A Appoints New Director and Gallery Manager
Henry Heng Lu and Ellie Chung
Henry Heng Lu has been appointed director of Centre A: Vancouver International Centre for Contemporary Asian Art. Heng Lu initially joined the centre in 2019 as its curator. In 2020, he became interim director when Derrick Chang stepped down just six months after being hired for the position.
“I am delighted and ready to continue mobilizing our community to further establish this beloved art centre that prioritizes Asian sensibilities,” says Lu.
He is a co-founder of Call Again, a mobile initiative designed to create space for contemporary Asian diasporic art. He has worked in arts institutions in Canada and internationally, and has curated exhibitions and programs with artists like Ken Lum, Eiko Otake and Zainub Verjee.
Centre A has also hired Ellie Chung as its gallery manager. Chung is an art educator and administrator who has worked at institutions like the Mónica Reyes Gallery and the Morris and Helen Belkin Art Gallery in Vancouver.
