Charlie Larouche-Potvin of Montreal, Que. is the winner of the 2024 RBC Award for Glass. He will receive a $10,000 cash prize.
Larouche-Potvin’s work particularly stood out because of “his exquisite technical skills and deep understanding of historical Venetian glass within a contemporary exploration of the drinking vessel form,” according to the news release.
This year’s jury, which included Susan Edgerley, Tyler Rock and Aaron Schey, also awarded Jeremie St-Onge (from Montreal) with the $5,000 runner-up prize for his project exploring the concept of landscape through blown glass.
And they have named Dorothee Bouliane (from Montréal), Gordon Boyd (from Oakville, Ont.) and Leia Shijie Guo (from Calgary, Alta.) as this year’s finalists. Each finalist will receive $1,000 to further their careers.
The only national award for emerging glass artists in Canada, the RBC Award for Glass is presented through an ongoing partnership with RBC Emerging Artists.
Winners and finalists will be featured in the Canadian Clay & Glass Gallery’s awards exhibition, Emergence. Winners will receive their prizes at the opening reception on June 2.
