Cheryl Mukherji, an Indian-born artist and writer based in Brooklyn, N.Y., is the recipient of the Capture Photography Festival's inaugural writing prize.
The Vancouver festival launched the juried award to support emerging writers and broaden the discourse on lens-based art.
Mukherji's work will be published in Capture’s annual catalogue, to be released in April in conjunction with its next festival.
She graduated with an MFA in advanced photographic studies from the International Center of Photography at Bard College, New York, in 2020.
The inaugural jury consists of Candice Hopkins, senior curator at the Toronto Biennial of Art; Sarah Milroy, chief curator of the McMichael Canadian Art Collection; and Capture’s executive director, Emmy Lee Wall.
Past issues of Capture's annual catalogue have included texts by David Campany, Douglas Coupland, Tania Willard, Jayne Wilkinson and others. They can be viewed here.
