The City of Burnaby has teamed up with the Vancouver-based non-profit Other Sights for Artists’ Projects to launch FLEET: Edmonds, a project designed to expand the city’s studio spaces and to bring art closer to the community.
Located in Edmonds Park in Burnaby, FLEET is a mobile artist studio that hosts working artists and will also function as a community gathering place, where people can participate in cultural events and activities.
“FLEET takes a creative approach to address a lack of access to space by making the studio itself mobile, so that it can be situated for short and long stays wherever opportunities for artists to do their work can be found,” according to the City of Burnaby.
FLEET’s official launch will take place May 25 from noon to 4 pm and will include live music and a do-it-yourself print by Eliot White-Hill, using a mobile printing press entitled BAG on a Bike.
The following day, May 26, the City of Burnaby will hold an open house, providing people with opportunities to learn how they can become more involved with the space. Information about other projects will also be available.
Future visiting artists include Eliot White-Hill, Simranpreet Anand and Alegria Soy.
FLEET will remain in the park until September 2025.
