Contemporary Art Gallery Expands Youth Education
CAG in the Classroom (photo by Four Eyes Portraits)
Vancouver's Contemporary Art Gallery is launching CAG in the Classroom, a dramatic expansion of its school programs.
A gift from patron Shauna Woolley is behind the new initiative, led by artists and curators in both the gallery and classrooms.
The four-part program begins with a gallery tour to introduce students to ideas, materials and modes of working. It continues with three exploratory artist-led classroom sessions.
"It will to allow our organization to respond nimbly to specific classroom needs with individualized art-making connected directly to curriculum and propelled by student inquiry, dialogue and critical thinking," says the gallery.
The program is subsidized on a sliding scale, with sessions offered free to public schools in underserved communities.
