Contemporary Calgary Announces Lisa Baldissera, Senior Curator
Contemporary Calgary is pleased to announce the appointment of its first Senior Curator, Ms. Lisa Baldissera. The appointment of Ms. Baldissera comes at an exciting time for Contemporary Calgary, as we proceed towards our strategic vision to establish Calgary as a global city of choice by engaging its citizens and visitors with the art of our times - through exhibitions, outreach and education programs.
/ ABOUT OUR NEW SENIOR CURATOR
Ms. Baldissera brings more than fifteen years of experience working at art institutions and museums, having produced over fifty exhibitions of contemporary and modern art over the course of her career. This position marks a return to Canada for Ms. Baldissera who has spent the last two years in London, England as a PhD candidate at Goldsmiths College, University of London. Her PhD research examines Emily Carr's London years. Her previous experience in Canada includes leading the curatorial department of the Mendel Art Gallery as Chief Curator during a crucial transition period as it prepared to move to new facilities, the Remai Modern. Ms. Baldissera previously held the position of Curator of Contemporary Art at the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria from 1999-2009.
Lisa Baldissera will officially join the Contemporary Calgary team on August 2, 2016 and looks forward to establishing Contemporary Calgary's curatorial direction and defining a multi-year program of exhibitions and public activities that inspires, engages and enthrals. Lisa very much looks forward to meeting and working with the local artistic communities.
