Contemporary Calgary Appoints Dr. Terry Rock as Interim Managing Director

Daryl Fridhandler, C Co-Chair stated: “Dr. Terry Rock’s extensive strategic leadership and arts administration experience will serve to advance Contemporary Calgary’s mission to provide Calgarians and its visitors a significant visual arts destination dedicated to contemporary and modern art. Contemporary Calgary welcomes the opportunity to work with Dr. Rock to help build a solid foundation for this exciting new initiative.”

Dr. Rock shared: “I am impressed with the dedication of the three boards that have joined forces to establish Contemporary Calgary. This is a bold move to realize a long held vision for contemporary art in our city. There are considerable synergies associated with the new organization and I’m looking forward to being a part of this dynamic team.”

Prior to Contemporary Calgary Dr. Terry Rock served as the founding President & CEO of Calgary Arts Development, starting the organization in 2005 and successfully navigating a merger with an existing agency in 2006. At Calgary Arts Development, Dr. Rock and his team delivered a long-term strategy for art space development, started up cSPACE Projects in partnership with the Calgary Foundation, and led the bid for Calgary to be a Cultural Capital of Canada in 2012. In addition, Dr. Rock was recently appointed to the TELUS Calgary Community Board, the Province of Alberta’s Premier’s Council on Culture, and the Board of the Sled Island Festival. Dr. Rock moved to Calgary in 1998 to serve on the Faculty of Management at the University of Calgary as an Assistant Professor of Strategic Management. Dr. Rock’s appointment is effective immediately.
