Contemporary Calgary Confirms New Home
The City of Calgary and Contemporary Calgary have announced a lease agreement, paving the way for a new gallery in the Centennial Planetarium. It is expected to open in 2019.
Prior to Contemporary Calgary's move into the building, the city will perform a $24.5-million renovation to bring it into compliance with current building codes.
Contemporary Calgary gets a 25-year lease for the entire planetarium property, with a 10-year extension available at its option. It will control all sublets, including retail, office, event rentals and food and beverage.
The building will remain civic property and part of the city's heritage inventory.
Contemporary Calgary is responsible for completing tenant improvements to transform the upgraded building into a gallery for modern and contemporary art.
