Contemporary Calgary Dedicates Heather Edwards Theatre in Honour of Major Donation
Contemporary Calgary announced the dedication of the Heather Edwards Theatre this week, in honour of the Calgary philanthropist’s $1 million gift to the gallery.
“This generous contribution not only breathes new life into a historic space but ensures it will continue to inspire artistic innovation, community connection, and cultural collaboration for years to come,” according to the news release.
“The renaming of the theatre comes after the gift from Edwards, announced earlier this year, which will support programming and partnerships for the space,” according to a Calgary Herald news story.
The space was originally opened as the Pleiades Theatre in 1967 as part of the city's Centennial Planetarium. “While its intention was to be used as a science lecture hall, the first director of the planetarium had a passion for the performing arts and opened it to musicians and live theatre acts,” according to the Calgary Herald.
