Crystal Mowry to Join MacKenzie Art Gallery
Crystal Mowry has been appointed as director of programs at the MacKenzie Art Gallery in Regina, where she will oversee all curatorial and education initiatives as of Aug. 3.
Executive director John G. Hampton says he admires Mowry, now senior curator at the Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery in Ontario.
“She has been an inspiration for me and for so many artists I respect," he says. "She approaches her work with intellectual depth, humility, care and a keen understanding of the context in which she is working."
Mowry cited the gallery's work with Indigenous artists and curators and its efforts to be a more equitable institution.
"I am honoured to be learning alongside colleagues who share a commitment to making our work more porous, more experimental and, ultimately, more human," she says.
