Darrell Bell (1959-2021)
Saskatoon landscape artist and gallery owner Darrell Bell died April 2 at age 61, a week after collapsing from a brain clot.
"As an artist he is well known for capturing light in his water, sky and landscapes which depict the grandeur of the prairies," his gallery's website notes. "Whether capturing the feeling of wind or the movement of water, there is always a sense of big prairie space."
Bell opened the Darrell Bell Gallery in 1998.
“I wanted to create a wonderful environment of beautiful things made by nice people,” he told the Saskatoon StarPhoenix in 2000. “And I want to sell these beautiful things so the artists make some money.”
Bell, born in Lanigan, southeast of Saskatoon, completed a Bachelor's degree in arts at the University of Saskatchewan in 1981.
His work is in public and corporate collections across Canada.
