Alberta artists DaveandJenn are showing their work, A Forest Song, at the BMO Project Room in Toronto until Nov. 27.
The 2019 work, a fantastic avian tableau featuring a three-headed macaw and other odd birds, is an enchanted place where material profusion reigns.
Calgary art critic Nancy Tousley describes the work as "an allegory for our time in which disharmony attends political and social life and the income gap grows. The opulent birds embody excess and information overload."
The artist duo, also known as David Foy and Jennifer Saleik, have collaborated since 2004.
They participated in the MASS MoCA traveling exhibition Oh, Canada (2012-15). Recent solo projects include No End at the Art Gallery of Alberta in Edmonton and A Natural History of Islands at the Nickle Galleries in Calgary.
