Dianne Bos at the McMichael for Remembrance Day
Calgary artist Dianne Bos borrows a phrase from Isaac Rosenberg’s famous First World War poem, Break of Day in the Trenches, for the title of her exhibition, The Sleeping Green.
On view at the McMichael Canadian Art Collection in Kleinburg, Ont., until Jan. 1, it consists of photographs taken with vintage and pinhole cameras in Belgium and France, a century after the horrors of trench warfare.
Bos took the pictures starting in 2014 and later used objects from battle sites — such as rocks, leaves and a bullet — scattering them over the paper during the printing process.
Bos, who was seeking to capture the emotional resonance of the sites, says the works “make the invisible visible.”
