In the summer of 2013, Hannah Jickling initiated a project as part of Traversing Yukon Landscapes, an exhibition at the Yukon Arts Centre Public Gallery. Featured Features was a series of events that brought together artists, orienteers and other members of the public throughout the month of August. Themes such as: Topography + Image-Making, Mapping + Movement and Landscape + Navigation were explored. Following this, Featured Features: Landscape Artworks Selected by Yukon Orienteers, was an exhibition of pieces from the Yukon Arts Centre and Yukon Permanent Art Collections, interpreted by members of the Yukon Orienteering Association.
Jickling has now unveiled a web-based catalogue, Featured Features, which documents the results with a series of texts, images and a commissioned essay by Amish Morrell, Editor of C Magazine.
Hannah Jickling is an artist who experiments with the possibilities of form, participation and meaning-making across disciplines and publics. She grew up in Whitehorse and learned to orienteer with the Yukon Orienteering Association. She has collaborated on projects with the Columbia River Orienteering Club in Portland, Oregon (2009, 2010) and Rasti-Lukko, the orienteering club in Rauma, Finland (2012).
