Director/Curator leaving legacy at SAAG
The Board of the Southern Alberta Art Gallery recently made the following announcement:
After 10 years at SAAG, including four as the organization’s Director/Curator, Ryan Doherty will be stepping down to pursue other opportunities. Doherty began working as the gallery’s Curator in 2008 developing rigorous and engaging programming that extended SAAG’s reputation as a leading institution for the arts in Canada.
As Director, he worked diligently to collectively craft a robust strategic vision for the gallery that led to the $1 million Live Art. Love SAAG. campaign, and $2.7 million in funding for a facility expansion that would include new administrative, storage, and programming space, as well as food services to ensure sustainable revenue and increase gallery attendance.
Doherty has expressed his enormous gratitude for the innumerable opportunities he has had at the gallery and is proud to have been part of such an exceptional institution. For Doherty, there is little doubt that the future of the Southern Alberta Art Gallery is bright and will continue to foster meaningful encounters and lifelong engagement with arts and culture.
SAAG’s reputation has transcended the local, reaching the national, and international stage as result of the innovative exhibition programming and fundraising campaign directed by Ryan Doherty and SAAG’s professional staff over the past ten years. The Board is deeply appreciative of Ryan’s unwavering dedication to the gallery and its many communities.
The Executive Director position has been posted with an application deadline of December 17.
