The Ontario Heritage Trust, in partnership with the RBC Foundation, is once again opening the doors to Fool's Paradise, the home of Canadian artist Doris McCarthy (1910-2010) to artists from across the country.
Back again for its second year, the Doris McCarthy Artist-in-Residence Program offers professional visual artists, musicians and writers the opportunity to apply to live and work at the home of Doris McCarthy. The picturesque site atop the Scarborough Bluffs allows artists to explore their creativity while being surrounded by the restorative influence of landscape and the environment.
"We are thrilled to be going into the second year of the Doris McCarthy Artist-in-Residence Program," says Sam Wesley from the Ontario Heritage Trust. "Last year we had artists ranging from a choral musician to a children's author to a digital animator living and working at the residence. We were amazed to see the dedication and creativity they put into their work and are excited to see what this year's artists will create."
The artists selected for residencies at Fool’s Paradise are among the best of their respective disciplines in Canada. They have achieved a high degree of professional and artistic success and have a wealth of experience, as well as unique perspectives to offer emerging artists.
Fostering creativity and excellence in emerging artists is a major aspect of the Artist-in-Residence Program. Under the mentorship-based program, the resident artists offer constructive criticism on technique and method, career counselling and other professional insight tailored to the needs and interests of artists at the start of their careers. The mentorship initiative aligns the Artist-in-Residence centre with RBC’s Emerging Artists Program and the Ontario Heritage Trust’s priority of educating and engaging youth.
