Toronto photographer Edward Burtynsky’s work will be featured in a new exhibition, Burtynsky: Extraction/Abstraction, at Saatchi Gallery in London, United Kingdom.
The show will be on view Feb. 14 to May 6, 2024 and will feature 94 of Burtynsky’s large-format photographs, 13 murals and an “augmented reality experience.”
Curated by Marc Mayer, former Director of the National Gallery of Canada and Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal, the exhibition will be the largest-ever mounted show of the renowned Canadian photographer’s work. It will also include In the Wake of Progress, a 22-minute “multimedia experience” which combines some of Burtynsky’s photographs and film footage. It was originally originally commissioned and co-produced by Luminato Festival Toronto and music producer Bob Ezrin (Pink Floyd, Andrea Bocelli, Peter Gabriel, Taylor Swift.)
Born in St. Catharines, Ontario in 1955, Burtynsky is one of the world's leading contemporary photographers. His photos are included in more than 60 museums and galleries around the world, including the National Gallery of Canada; the Museum of Modern Art in New York; the Reina Sofia Museum in Madrid; the Tate Modern in London, England; and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art in California.
Burtynsky's work is represented in Canada by Paul Kuhn Gallery in Calgary and Nicholas Metivier Gallery in Toronto.
