Exposure, Alberta's Photography Festival has announced the program for the 20th annual festival.
Exposure 2024’s curated exhibitions, the International Open Call and Emerging Photographers Showcase, will take place at Contemporary Calgary from Feb. 2 to March 3 and will include “photocollage, conceptual photography, politically engaged practices and works that embrace social and individual experience as well as visual explorations of identity and personal narratives,” according to a news release.
More than 20 Exposure exhibitions will be on view at venues including The Alberta Society of Artists, Alberta University of the Arts (AUArts), ART HUB, Big Metal Prints, Canmore Art Guild, Christine Klassen Gallery, Crowsnest Pass Public Art Gallery, cSPACE Marda Loop, Dandy Brewing Company, Esker Foundation, Framed on Fifth, Herringer Kiss Gallery, Red Deer Museum + Art Gallery, Sparrow Artspace, Studio 12, Three Sisters Gallery, Visual College of Art and Design (VCAD), The Whyte Museum of the Canadian Rockies, Wild Skies Art Gallery and Willock & Sax Gallery.
Elyse Longair, the Exposure 2023 Emerging Photographer of the Year award winner, will present a solo collage exhibition at Contemporary Calgary, Feb. 2 to March 3.
And the Flash Forward Incubator Program, in partnership with Toronto's The Magenta Foundation, will feature the work of students from Westmount Charter School in Calgary and Eastglen School in Edmonton.
Exposure Fence: People & Place will take place outdoors at Calgary’s Olympic Plaza. Curated by Beth Kane, People & Place presents the work of visual artists based in Treaty 6 and 7 territories in Southern Alberta.
And in partnership with Pattison Outdoor Advertising, Exposure Billboard will feature the work of 30 local and international artists and photographers on a digital billboard on the corner of Macleod Trail and 9 Ave. S.E. in Calgary from Feb. 5 to 11.
New in 2024, the festival will host EXPOSURE CONVERSATIONS, a new 3-part event series will be held at Contemporary Calgary and will include Conversations with Newcomer Artists, Conversations on the Family Archive, and Conversations on Healing Through the Arts.
Exposure will once again host an annual portfolio review, a professional development opportunity to present photographic work to leading photography professionals, including curators, editors and educators. The 2024 event will take place Feb. 10 online and February 24 at the University of Calgary's Taylor Institute for Teaching and Learning.
