Facade Festival Illuminates Vancouver Art Gallery
Rendering by Go2 Productions of a monumental projection to be presented by Sandeep Johal on the Georgia Street façade of the Vancouver Art Gallery in September as part of Façade Festival 2019.
The Facade Festival, which runs from Sept. 8 to Sept. 14, will illuminate the Vancouver Art Gallery with evening projections.
The free, outdoor event, now in its fourth year, is organized by the Burrard Arts Foundation in partnership with the Vancouver Art Gallery.
The festival presents 10 commissioned works by contemporary artists, both established and emerging, from sunset to midnight.
“Facade Festival speaks to the pervasiveness of digital forms in modern life and contemplates the role that new technologies play in contemporary art while engaging the public in a grand architectural intervention,” said Kate Bellringer, the foundation's director and curator.
“Selected artists developed their work with special consideration to the site of the Vancouver Art Gallery, our city’s unique character and the historic building itself.
The commissioned artists are Dana Claxton, Khan Lee, Drew Young, Sandeep Johal, Lindsay McIntyre, Howie Tsui, Bracken Hanuse Corlett, Justine Chambers, Josh Hite, Natalie Purschwitz and Hyung-Min Yoon.
Works by two artists will premiere each night from Sept. 8 to Sept. 12. The final two days see an encore presentation of all projections.
An artist's talk will be held at the Vancouver Art Gallery on Sept. 14 at 3 p.m.
