Fafard Sculpture Installed Outside Calgary's Masters Gallery
Joe Fafard, "Van Gogh Observes," ed 2/3, bronze 8' x 8'
Van Gogh Observes, a bronze sculpture that stands over eight feet tall is one of the last major works produced by Fafard before his death last March.
The outdoor exhibition space, Stage22, is in front of the gallery, on the corner of 22nd Avenue and 4th Street S.W.
An exhibition of Fafard's work is on display inside the gallery.
Fafard, born in 1942, had a career that spanned more than 40 years. His celebrated bronze sculptures of animals and historical figures appear across the country, and his work was subject to a retrospective at the National Gallery in 2007.
Fafard was the recipient of numerous accolades, including the Order of Canada in 1981 and the Saskatchewan Order of Merit 2002.
